We cannot possibly cover all aspects of extinguishing agents and fire prevention in this short program but the information will help you become more familiar with extinguishers, fire prevention and a better understanding of emergency action in the event of a fire. The objective of the training is to save lives and property in that order. Always remember that life safety is much more important than property. If you can't extinguish a fire safely, call the fire department and let them handle the situation. In the event of a small fire, call the fire department anyway because small fires can quickly get out of hand and seconds count in the fire fighting business. Fire extinguishers are not designed to fight a large or spreading fire and even against small fires, extinguishers are useful only under the right conditions.
Topics covered in this safety video include: inspections, PASS, fire triangle, different types of extinguishers for each type or classes of fire, fire prevention including good housekeeping, bonding and grounding, safety waste cans, proper use of extinguishers, fire suppression systems, and evacuating a building.

Among all the safety problems an employee can encounter, fire can be the most frightening. Every year fires cause hundreds of millions of dollars in damage and result in thousands of employee injuries, a number of which are fatal. Yet many of these catastrophes could have been prevented if the fire had been extinguished before it started to spread.
This training products on "Using Fire Extinguishers" look at why things burn, review the types of fire extinguishers that are found in facilities today, and discuss how to use fire extinguishers to fight small fires. Topics covered in these products include:
A fire can be an unpredictable and frightening event. But a fire that occurs in a long-term care setting can completely devastate your residents, your facility, and your entire community. Staff members, frontline care workers, and health care providers play a significant role in protecting themselves and their residents. The better prepared you are, the safer everyone will be.
During this program you'll learn:
The importance of fire drills, evacuation plans and emergency procedures
How to prevent or limit the most common causes of fires
How to keep your residents safe when a fire does occur using the R.A.C.E method (Rescue, Alarm, Confine, Extinguish) or A.R.C.E. method (Alarm, Rescue, Confine, Extinguish), and
Strategies for safely confining and extinguishing small fires
Among all the safety problems an employee can encounter, fire can be the most frightening. Every year fires in healthcare facilities cause millions of dollars in damage and result in hundreds of injuries, a number of which are fatal. Yet many employees do not realize how their own actions, or inactions, can contribute to the risk of fire.

Hazardous materials and waste are part of many work situations, and can be found on many types of job sites. OSHA feels that it is so important for employees to know how to recognize these potentially dangerous substances (as well as how to handle and dispose of them properly) they have mandated that anyone working with these materials receive comprehensive training in this area.
In 1976, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) to regulate the handling of hazardous waste "from cradle to grave". Since then other regulations have followed, including OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.120, also known as HAZWOPER. As part of these regulations, there are varying requirements for employee training, depending on an employee's specific level of involvement with hazardous materials.

Purple K Fire Extinguishers - Powdered bicarbonate of soda had been used as a flame-halting agent for many years. Investigators conducted fire tests with many powdered substances. American industry was called in, and the new highly effective product, called Purple-K-Powder became used throughout the Navy and in U.S. municipal and industrial fire protection operations, and thereafter throughout the world. It is the only dry chemical agent recognized by the National Fire Protection Association for airport crash rescue firefighting. Potassium Bicarbonate fire extinguishers, commonly referred to as PURPLE K, are highly effective on B and C class fires. Common applications are military facilities, oil refineries, airport ramps, service stations, and transfer areas.
Topics covered in this safety video include: fire extinguisher classes, using extinguishers, Purple K, life safety in fire fighting, and inspections.
