    MOZART

The opening movement of Mozarts beloved A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC is march-like in nature. It is light and charming like the DIVERTIMENTI, pleasant works designed to entertain. The RONDO ALLA TURCA was originally the last movement of a piano sonata; it is an airy tune in the style that Mozarts Vienna liked to refer to as Turkish. The V SONATA IN C is here performed by flute with string accompaniment. The Rondo from A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC repeats its opening phrase on many different steps of the scale, and bounces along to a vibrant conclusion. The EXSULTATE is the finale of Mozarts 1773 cantata, where its bright hue makes it a perfect contrast with all the expressive music that precedes it; it is marked to be played presto.

    MIXING AND MASTERING WITH CUBASE

    By Matthew Loel T. Hepworth

Cubase provides the user with many more tracks than bands from the '60s, '70s, and '80s ever had at their disposal. Many iconic records were produced on 2-, 3-, and 4-track recorders, whereas the track count of Cubase 6 is limited only by the power of the host computer. After the tracks have been recorded, they must be mixed and mastered to sound polished and professional. But for the new user, the processes of editing, adding effects, EQ, mixing, and mastering can be challenging.

Mixing and Mastering with Cubase was written with the new user in mind. It starts by teaching you how to manipulate all the tracks and events in the Cubase Event Window. You'll learn how to use volume and pan controls to create depth and audibility, add EQ to help every track sit in the mix, and add effects such as compression and reverb to produce smooth and polished results. Finally, you'll learn how to add mastering treatments for a punchy, shiny, and loud mix that will compete with the pros. In the end, you might know the project was mixed and mastered in your home, but no one else has to. Cubase has been used to create countless hit records. With what you learn in this book and a little luck and hard work, yours could certainly be next.

    MUSIC THEORY MADE EASY

    With Paul Baloche

Understanding the essentials of music theory does not require a four year degree or the ability to read music. Unfortunately, too often this subject is taught in a way that is complicated and intimidating. Concepts are clearly demonstrated with piano, guitar, and on-screen graphics, while ear training exercises are taught by listening to Paul's studio band and live concert footage. Leaving out the non-essentials, Paul Baloche focuses on the critical fundamentals that will help you: understand and use the Nashville number system; see and hear relationships between notes and chords; hear and feel and modern chord progressions; speak the language of music; write and arrange your songs more creatively; have a better understanding of all kinds of music; and more. You can also download the companion workbook at www.LeadWorship.com. As you comprehend and apply what is taught on this DVD, you'll be amazed at how your musical confidence increases when playing by yourself or with a band.
