This DVD explains the physiology of wound healing and reviews key concepts and practices for providing wound care in the perioperative setting. Topics covered include types of wound closure, wound classification, and approaches to prevent SSIs.
One of the fundamental goals of healthcare professionals is to heal wounds, prevent complications associated with wounds, and preserve the ability to function. This course, is designed to instruct nurses on the physiological phases of wound healing, and the different types of wounds.
After completing this course, the learner should be able to:
~ Explain the difference between acute and chronic wounds
~ Describe each of the four stages of wound healing
~ Describe each of the three types of wound healing (primary, secondary and tertiary intention)
~ Identify the risk factors that can impede wound healing
~ Describe actions that nurses can take to ensure proper wound healing
Wound assessment is more than just looking at the lesion. It is a holistic approach to care that identifies systemic, psychosocial, and local factors that may precipitate a wound or impede its healing. This course, is designed to instruct nurses and other healthcare professionals with detailed information on how to properly assess and document wounds.
After completing this course, the learner should be able to:
~ Describe the importance of performing a medical and psychosocial history, and be able to do so
~ Perform a complete physical exam of a patient with a wound
~ Perform a complete wound evaluation, including an assessment of the wound base and surrounding tissues
~ Assess and monitor wound complications
This course is designed to provide healthcare professionals with detailed information on the different types of wounds, as well as risk factors, assessment tools, and prevention strategies for each type. This is designed to instruct nurses and other healthcare professionals with detailed information on how to properly assess and document wounds.
After completing this course, the learner should be able to:
~ Differentiate between the two main types of wounds: acute and chronic.
~ Identify, assess, and prevent pressure ulcers
~ Describe the different stages of pressure ulcers
~ List different factors that contribute to pressure ulcers
~ Explain the risk factors and causes of venous wounds
~ Describe what can be done to prevent venous wounds
~ List the physical findings and prevention strategies for arterial wounds
~ Describe the causes, risk factors, signs, symptoms and prevention strategies for wounds associated with diabetes
This course is designed to provide healthcare professionals with detailed information on the treatment modalities available for different types of chronic wounds. This is designed to instruct nurses and other healthcare professionals with detailed information about the treatment modalities available for chronic wounds.
After completing this course, the learner should be able to:
~ Choose appropriate treatment modalities based on wound type and goal(s) for treatment
~ Describe and perform appropriate wound bed preparation
~ Explain the different types of sharp debridement
~ Describe the advantages and disadvantages of different types of wound dressings
~ Explain how to properly perform a dressing change
~ Define various treatment modalities, including negative pressure wound therapy, electrical stimulation, hyperbaric, and ultrasound therapy
Pressure areas can develop in any setting whether it is acute care, long term care or home health. It becomes a vital part of every health care provider's daily care to know what a pressure area is, how it can happen and how to prevent it. This two part program on wound management prepares your staff to better understand good skin care.
This video covers factors affecting skin integrity, clients at risk for pressure ulcer formation and the four stages of pressure ulcer development. Wound healing is covered in details in this video in terms of its classification, phases, major types of exudates, main complications of and factors that affect it. Assessment data pertinent to skin integrity, pressure sites, and wounds as it relates to nursing diagnoses associated with impaired skin integrity is discussed as essential aspects of planning care to maintain skin integrity and promote wound healing. Key areas outlined include measures to prevent pressure ulcer formation, nursing strategies to treat pressure ulcers, promote wound healing, and prevent complications of wound healing while identifying purposes of commonly used wound dressing materials and binders. Physiologic responses to heat and cold and purposes of heat and cold and methods of applying dry and moist heat and cold are discussed also with essential steps of obtaining wound specimens, applying dressings, and irrigating a wound.
Acute skin trauma, such as abrasions, avulsions, blisters, incisions, lacerations, and punctures, sustained during athletic and recreational activities is relatively common. On the other hand, guidelines to direct clinical decisions and management techniques for handling these wounds are somewhat limited. Acute Wound Management Evidence-Based Techniques examines the principles of acute-wound management and the techniques and goals of evidence-based cleansing, debridement, and dressing methods. The DVD also looks at the application of the techniques, daily monitoring, and follow-up care for the patient and athlete who has an acute wound.
Among the topics covered:
~ Principles of wound management
~ Wound cleansing
~ Wound debridement
~ Wound dressings
~ Evidence-based recommendations
~ Future research
This program teaches nursing assistants how to provide proper skin and wound care. It shows how to care for pressure ulcers; demonstrates how to apply elastic stockings; explains how to apply a dry, non-sterile dressing; covers the patient back rub; and outlines the process for applying an elastic abdominal binder.
Emphasizing that proper burn care begins at the emergent phase and continues through the acute and convalescent phases, this program teaches how to care for burn wounds. It shows how to determine whether a burn wound is of partial or full thickness, covers infection prevention, and looks at wound dressing.
This program explains the phases of acute and chronic wound healing, teaches how to identify signs of progress or delay in the healing process, and examines factors that affect wound healing. It also shows how to assess and treat pressure ulcers.
This DVD discusses factors to consider when choosing an appropriate wound dressing; describes the properties of temporary wound coverings; and covers the indications, advantages, and disadvantages of a variety of categories of wound dressings.
This program introduces the phases of wounding, explores ways to document wounding, and discusses moist wound products that encourage successful closure. It also explains how wounds are classified.
Gives the basics of proper wound care. Discusses the three phases of the healing process and the major systematic factors affecting it. Describes the difference between normal and impaired healing. Demonstrates dressing techniques for packing a wound, the various types of dressings available and the purposes of each.
This program is organized around the following categories:
~ Introduction
~ Types of Wound Infections
~ Pathogens
~ Incidence of Infection
~ Host Risk Factors
~ Antibiotic Therapy
~ Conclusion
Discusses the aspects of secondary healing wounds: Three basic types of wound healing; secondary healing (contraction); allowing an open wound to heal by contraction; reasons for opening a wound which was closed; clinical wound healing problems; management of open wound healing by secondary intention; aspects of patient care which affect wound healing by contraction.
