YOUR MOTHER EIRE IS ALWAYS YOUNG (MICHAEL SCOTT)
The late Michael Scott was without doubt Eire's best-loved architect. Born in 1905, he started his own practice in Dublin in 1928. This became in 1966 Michael Scott & Partners, and in 1974 Scott Tallon Walker Architects, from which he retired in 1977.

There is not a cultural activity in Ireland that he did not have a hand in, and for this he was awarded the 1975 UK Royal Gold Medal for Architecture. He has been the catalyst behind Irish Arts, the Building Centre of Ireland, Rosc the 4-yearly international art exhibitions, and the Dublin Theatre Festival, and he has received awards from far and wide. Acting also formed part of his early activities both in Dublin and the USA, and gave him strong links with the Abbey and Gate Theatres in Dublin.

But painting was always his real love and turned him into a patron of the arts, encouraging Irish artists both young and established.

His recorded reminiscences provide a good idea of this lifelong devotion to art and to his native Eire.
