PLANT ODYSSEYS EPISODE 1
A story of flowers through time...

There are some 300,000 species of flowering plant on Earth. A small number have so captivated humans across the ages that they have become iconic, instantly recognisable as part of our everyday life. More than mere ornaments found in our gardens or home - behind their beautiful blooms lies an incredible evolutionary story.

This series explores the biological and botanical history of four iconic plants - including the rose, the tulip and the water lily. It traces each plant's epic journey across millennia, looking at how millions of years of evolution have created unique characteristics and how man has bent these traits to his will and the vagaries of fashion. But the surprises aren't purely biological. These plants have had an immeasurable impact on man.

Plant Odysseys also reveals not only how we have changed these plants but how they, in turn, have changed us.
