A basic function of this program is to demonstrate that economics is indeed a coherent science. The program explains and illustrates the purposes of the discipline, outlines the major types of economic systems and explores the mechanisms, assumptions and values of our own economic system. The program characterizes economics as the science of choosing which of our resources we will use and which of our wants we will satisfy. Students review aspects of traditional economic systems and then examine our own. The program shows ho interrelated values and priorities shape the decisions which direct our economy.
