The ice cream cart, with its large blue parasol, has seen many people through their childhood. Even without the music, people of all ages would be drawn towards it.
We did not have convenient stores or supermarkets in the 1960s and 70s and the best place to get a Large Cup (of ice cream) is the ice cream cart. Every kid in every neighbourhood would look forward to the van coming partly because the uncle driving it was always nice and kind. He would not care how many items you bought, even if business was only a dollar or so. Generations of ice cream cart drivers have been passionate about their work and have built a special bond with their customers. The job does not only bring them money, but also a touch of humanity - something Hong Kong society today quite desperately needs.
